Abstract
Drawing from the artist’s own observations in the collage-making process, I intend to provide a close analysis of her methodology and my interaction with it. This understanding will help to assimilate the intricate themes and narratives within 'Histology of the Different Classes of Uterine Tumors', connected through their shared materiality. Subsequently, I will clarify the pertinence of Mutu’s materiality within the socio-political context of her works, which contribute to ongoing discussions about race, gender and identity. By raising fundamental questions about power and survival, particularly within the microcosm of institutional galleries and museums, I will subsequently connect back to my own art practice, sharing our similarities but more significantly, our differences.
