Abstract

I wondered for a while what the point of my dissertation was going to be. I knew it was going to be very self-centred, and possibly a bit uninteresting to everyone apart from my mum. so, I’ve decided to embrace that.
Therefore I will, stare into the interrogators lightbulb and explain myself. I will explore how I actually make the work. Go through my process step by step and elaborate on the important moments to further elucidate what the hell I am even doing. To start, a summary of my practice, Loss and longing, comfort and the uncomfortable, experience and fiction. I am preoccupied with finding the contradictions>dialogues>dialectics within experience. I make work about the tensions I experience within lived experience. Visually my work is artificially bright, high chroma and theatrically staged, this language allows me to explore complex and personal topics from a distanced and fictionalised lens. Exploring the dialogue between reality and fiction and the contradictions inherent in perusing the personal through unreality. My work is episodic in nature, and functions as a narrative. The individual works are episodes or chapters within a canon. The work reflects myself as a person. Every element of my work is structured as either a dialectic, a contradiction or a dialogue. This structure stems from a genuine feeling of fascination with complication.
