Abstract
This critical model thesis takes the form of four short texts. Each attempts to draw out one of the threads of my practice in relation to contemporary art practice and theory. Layering these theories is a strategy that recognises the relationality of knowledge and is open to exploring the spaces in between: examining how artworks and theories interact with each other to develop new meanings. The texts traverse the range and contradictions within my practice, from installation to performative interventions and the resulting documentation. These texts do not set out to disentangle the threads into neat conclusions, but to explore some of the areas of my work (and even identity) that I find hard to articulate. I do this by reference to the clown, a queer character, who reveals intersectionality by oscillating between the shadows of the audience and the spotlight of centre stage.
