Abstract

Exploring the intricacies of social and interpersonal relationships, through the lens of irony and humour my practice relies primarily on the method of collage to create dissected portraits of contemporary life. Drawing from different sources, spanning from intimate matters and recollections to literature, cartoons, and social media, I strive to create new compositions characterized by their contradictory and emotionally ambiguous nature. By challenging conventional narrative forms and questioning the legacy of Western Art, my work delves into themes of childhood, banality, and desire, whilst exploring sexual politics and stereotypical social and familial roles. In this short dissertation, I endeavour to explore some of the themes that fuel my practice, as well as provide a basic framework to critically engage with my current body of work. Furthermore, I hope it proves capable of fostering in the reader a curiosity to further search and reflect on the discussed issues.
